Faith In Action
The Paddy's Van
St Patrick's College prides itself in heeding Edmund Rice's call to be civic leaders and assist the poor and marginalised in our community. We encourage our students to do this by living our faith through action. Our flagship Paddy's Van program is just one way our students immerse themselves in community service. By assisting with the van, our students soon realise it is about more than just distributing food and blankets. It is about gaining a more genuine insight into those on the margins from society and seeking to form relationships with them.
The Paddy's Van and our volunteers provide a weekly breakfast service at Decker Park, dinner at the Sandgate Community Centre, serve regular healthy breakfast options at a nearby Redcliffe school and a BBQ in Sandgate Village every second Saturday night.
The Paddy's Van depends entirely on volunteers of students, parents and College staff.
Day to day running costs of the Paddy's Van are met by the College, so support from the community assists us greatly in continuing to provide this much needed local service.
